Getting Your Bathroom Heat Just Right (Without Wasting Power)
Ever stepped out of a shower into a bathroom that feels like a walk-in freezer? It’s the worst. That’s why we use infrared lamps—they hit you with that instant, cozy warmth the second you turn them on. But here is the trick: you can’t just grab any lamp and hope for the best. You have to match the power to the size of your room, or you’re just throwing money away on your electric bill. Picking the right wattage You wouldn’t put a massive industrial heater in a tiny powder room, right? If your space is small (think under 4m²), a 250W to 400W lamp is plenty. It’ll warm you up fast without turning the room into a sauna. But if you’ve got a big master bath (10m² or more), you’ll need something with more punch—probably 600W or 800W. If you go too big in a tiny room, you risk overheating the fixture. Go too small in a big room, and the heat just vanishes into the air before it ever reaches your skin. It all comes down to how far the heat has to travel from the ceiling to the floor. The “Water vs. Heat” Struggle Since these are for bathrooms, they have an IPX5 rating. In plain English? They’re sealed tight so water jets won’t fry the electronics. But there’s a catch. When you seal a heater up to keep water out, you also block the airflow. This means the internals can get incredibly hot. To stop the sockets from literally melting under the pressure, we use reinforced wiring and high-temp ceramics. It’s the invisible stuff that keeps your house from catching fire. A few tips for the setup Shortwave infrared is great because it’s instant, but it doesn’t “throw” the heat very far. To actually feel it, put the lamps exactly where you’ll be standing. And for the love of your wallet, put them on a timer or a motion sensor. There’s no point in heating an empty room. One last thing: if you’re installing a bunch of these in one area, double-check your circuit breakers. More wattage means more pull on your electricity, and you don’t want to trip the power every time you take a bath.
