
Why Your High-Ceiling Heaters Keep Dying (and How to Fix It)
If you’ve ever installed infrared heaters in a massive industrial bay, you know the drill. Everything looks great on day one. Then, a few months in, a unit goes dark. You climb the ladder, check the wiring, and find the culprit: the lead wires. Here is the problem. Most generic heaters are put together with basic crimps or some cheap glue. In a high-heat environment, that just doesn’t cut it. The heaters go through these brutal heat cycles—hot, cold, hot, cold—which makes cheap insulation crack and seals shrink. Once that happens, moisture sneaks in, and pop. You’ve got a short circuit.
The real struggle with heat
Think about where the electrical wire actually enters the quartz or ceramic body. That spot is basically a heat sink. Metal and ceramic don’t expand at the same rate when they get hot. If the sealant can’t handle that “tug-of-war,” a tiny gap opens up. That’s when oxidation kicks in, and before you know it, the wire just burns out. We handle this differently. Instead of just “gluing” things together, we use a multi-stage vacuum sealing process. We use high-temp silicone or specialized glass-frit seals that actually bond to the envelope on a chemical level. It creates a tight, gas-proof barrier. Stop relying on heat-shrink tubing
A lot of shops use heat-shrink tubing and call it a “seal.” But let’s be honest: that’s just a cover. It’s like putting a band-aid over a leak. Our OEM process actually builds the lead wire into the structural seal of the lamp itself. This gets rid of that annoying air gap where carbonization usually starts. The result? One quick tip for installation
There is a trade-off, though. Because the seal is so strong, the lead wire is a bit more rigid. Do not bend these wires sharply. If you kink the wire too close to the seal, you might crack the envelope. When you’re setting up your mounting brackets, just make sure there’s a natural, gentle loop in the wire. Give it some breathing room so there’s no mechanical stress on the seal, and you’ll be set for the long haul.
