If you’re putting an infrared heater in a bathroom or out on a nightclub patio, you’re basically throwing it into a war zone. You’ve got thick steam, wild temperature swings, and moisture hitting the hardware from every angle. One tiny leak in the seal? That’s all it takes for the lamp to blow. Here’s the problem with moisture. Water vapor is sneaky. It doesn’t just sit on the outside; it finds those microscopic gaps in the housing and the connectors. Then, the quartz tube heats up to a few hundred degrees, and that trapped moisture expands fast. It’s like a tiny explosion inside the lamp. That pressure can crack the glass or eat away at the internal filaments. We don’t want to find that out after you’ve installed it. So, we use damp-heat aging tests. We shove the units into a chamber at 85% humidity and crank up the heat. It lets us simulate years of wear and tear in just a few weeks. We basically force the product to fail on our floor so it doesn’t fail in your house. Watching the weak spots We spend a lot of time obsessing over where the wiring meets the heating element. If a seal is weak, you get oxidation. That creates electrical resistance, which makes the connector get way too hot. Eventually, it just melts. By stressing the units in a wet environment, we can actually see if our gaskets and waterproof coatings are doing their job or if they’re just for show. The trade-off Now, there is a catch. Making something truly waterproof usually means the housing gets a bit bulkier. It also blocks some of the airflow around the chassis. Because of that, you’ll want to make sure you leave enough breathing room around the unit when you install it. The internal element is protected from the steam, but the outer shell still needs to cool down. We aren’t guessing when it comes to how long these last. We push them until they break, then we pick materials that can handle even more. It’s the only way to make sure the lamp doesn’t pop the second someone hops in a hot shower.
